CECA Awards 2016

September 2016

The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), a sub-division of the CIF, recently held their 2016 Excellence Awards on 16th September at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin, and Roadbridge were announced on the night as the winners in the ‘Best Health & Safety Initiative’ for our work on the Grangegorman Site Infrastructure and Public Realm project.

This project also received a Highly Commended award in the ‘Projects over €10 Million’ category.

Some of the initiatives employed by Roadbridge not only on the Grangegorman project, but across all of our sites, that the judges felt set us apart, include but are not limited to the following:

  • The Site Safety Manager visited local primary schools to carry out the CIF ‘Stay Safe, Play Safe’ initiative, which highlights the dangers of entering sites.
  • Daily pre task talks with daily work activities on display.
  • Sign in/sign out procedure with security
  • Bi-weekly safety interface meetings between contractors
  • Daily walk through work areas to improve access and boundary safety.
  • We invited the Dublin fire brigade in to do an emergency rescue scenario using the underground drainage network, so they could rehearse confined space entry
  • There were over 271,000 manhours worked on site
  • Over 930 persons were inducted to the project
  • Safety incentive scheme in place on site to reward safe behaviours and suggestions
  • Ongoing programme of safety training on site including machine operators, confined space entry, environmental awareness, etc.

Work on this highly complex project began in November 2013 and the main target date for completion of the Site Infrastructure package was to have the college ready to receive over 1,000 students in September 2014.  This target was successfully achieved by the Roadbridge project team.
